Starbiters (Astrodectidae) are a family of starfish. What separates starbiters from other starfish is that each of their arms is lined with teeth-like denticles. Also separating starbiters from other starfish, a starbiter will prey on animals the same size as, or even larger than, itself. A starbiter will wrap it’s arms around it’s prey, constricting it and driving it’s denticles into it. This behaviour is called bite-hugging. Not all starbiters are predators, however. Several species of starbiters are parasites. These species use their denticles to cling to large animals, such as fish, marine alligatoroids, and thalassovara
The boomvark is a species of tubulidentate descended from the aardvark, native to the rainforests of Africa. Like its ancestor, the boomvark feeds entirely on ants and termites. However, the boomvark feeds on arboreal ants and termites, as the boomvark itself is arboreal. It is smaller than its ancestor, measuring 60 to 90cm long, not including its tail, which adds an additional 40 to 70cm to its length. Its tail is also prehensile, allowing it to remain stable as it tears open the hives of its prey. Large claws on its forelimbs make short work of the hives of its prey, and allow it to grip branches. Large claws on its hindlimbs allow it to g
